Course Numbering, Credit/Contact Hours, and Course Rotation
Beginning in Fall 2025, each course is identified by a four letter prefix identifying the course discipline and a five-digit number. The first digit indicates the course level; “0” indicates development courses which do not apply toward graduation, “1” indicates first-year or freshman-level courses, “2” indicates second-year or sophomore-level courses, “3” indicates third-year or junior-level courses, and “4” indicates fourth-year or senior-level courses; the second and third digits are course identifiers; the fourth digit is multipurpose, usesd to indicate honors courses (H) or credit hours over 9 hours; the final digit indicates the number of semester hours of credit: 1 = 1 hour, 2 = 2 hours, etc. Courses with a “V” as the fifth digit indicate a variable credit course.
The number of semester hours of credit for the course are shown after Credit Hours. The number after Contact Hours indicates the number of hours each week spent in the instructional activities noted. Offered lists the typical course rotation. This rotation is not guaranteed; course offerings can change due to low enrollment, instructor availability, or other extenuating circumstances.
Arkansas Course Transfer System
The Arkansas Course Transfer System (ACTS) contains information about the transferability of courses within Arkansas public colleges and universities. Students are guaranteed the transfer of applicable credits and the equitable treatment in the application of credits for the admissions and degree requirements. Course transferability is not guaranteed for courses listed in ACTS as “No Comparable Course.” Additionally, courses with a D frequently do not transfer and institutional policies may vary. ACTS may be accessed at the Arkansas Department of Higher Education ACTS webpage.
The U.S. Air Force offers the Air Force ROTC program on the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville campus for interested UAFS students. Students enroll for the AERO courses through the ROAR at UAFS and take the courses on the Fayetteville campus.
