MELA 6213 - Young Adult Multicultural Literature Credit Hours: 3 Contact Hours: 3 Lecture Designed to meet the needs of the graduate candidate in the selection and evaluation of young adult literature based on biological, sociocultural, psychological, and developmental characteristics, emphasizing gender-fair and multicultural resources. Examine the historical development of literary works written for and about adolescents, and introduce critical issues surrounding the use and teaching of a variety of genres of young adult literature in today’s culturally diverse schools.
Prerequisites: admission in the M.Ed. program
