Welcome to UAFS

Dear UAFS Students,

Welcome to the 2024-25 academic year at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. I am glad that you have chosen to pursue a degree with us. It is my hope that in the coming year, you will invest in your academic success, grow personally, and engage thoughtfully in the life of the university.

I believe you will find our faculty to be exceptional and accessible. Our faculty stand ready to assist and mentor diligent students. I encourage you as a student to seek out challenging and fulfilling academic experiences that might include study abroad programs and the annual Student Research Symposium. I also encourage you to ask for help if you ever find yourself struggling academically. Students can utilize faculty office hours, the Gordon Kelley Academic Success Center, and the math and writing labs on campus to achieve academic success.

At UAFS learning does not end when you leave the classroom. I strongly encourage you to engage in co-curricular programs. With more than 100 Registered Student Organizations, I believe you will find something that interests you. Fraternity and Sorority Life is strong, vibrant, and values focus. Our Student Government Association consists of a group of dedicated student leaders who work together to create a better overall student experience. I also invite you to attend on-campus activities. These activities are free for you to attend and are a whole lot of fun. Our award-winning Campus Activities Board has prepared a number of exciting programs for you to enjoy this academic year, which means there is always something going on here at UAFS.

I encourage you to explore the high-quality cultural, musical, and theatrical performances at UAFS. In addition to these, our athletic programs are highly competitive and offer a great fan experience in the student section. So whether you are a brand-new Lion or a veteran of the Pride, commit yourself to academic excellence, campus involvement, and service to others. Remember that you, more than anyone else, have the power to shape your future. Make good choices, be open-minded, and enjoy everything UAFS has to offer.

All the best,

Dave Stevens, Ed.D.

Hello Lions!

My name is Anna Capps, and I am your 2024-2025 Student Government Association (SGA) President. It is with great honor that I get to have this position and help students continue their higher education here at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith (UAFS).

College is a difficult thing for many students, and I want to encourage everyone to reach out and seek help from those around you. This is your college experience, so try your hardest and make yourself proud!

UAFS has a tremendous amount of programs, student organizations, events, and much more; there will always be a place for you on this campus. I am truly so thankful to be one of the first faces to welcome you to campus!

A little piece of advice that I have for all students, incoming and current, is to never give up. This piece of advice is used for so many different things, but in college, it is so valuable to remember what you are doing everything for. Your college experience is completely about you, and for you, make sure that you are doing everything you need. Keep pushing yourself to do better and seek help. UAFS has so many helpful people within academic, mental health, and physical health areas that can help you continue your college journey.

You are now a Lion, so take pride and enjoy your time at our wonderful institution!

Anna Capps
Student Government President
