Dear UAFS Students,
Welcome to the 2025-26 academic year at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith! We are thrilled that you have chosen to pursue your degree with us. My hope for you this year is to invest in your academic success, grow personally, and engage thoughtfully in university life.
You will find our faculty to be exceptional and approachable. They are ready to assist and mentor dedicated students. I encourage you to seek out challenging and rewarding academic experiences, such as study abroad programs and the annual Student Research Symposium. If you ever find yourself struggling academically, don’t hesitate to ask for help. You can utilize faculty office hours, visit the Gordon Kelley Academic Success Center, and use the Writing Center on campus to support your academic journey.
At UAFS, learning continues outside the classroom. I strongly encourage you to get involved in co-curricular programs. With over 100 Registered Student Organizations, you’re sure to find something that piques your interest. Our Fraternity and Sorority Life is robust, vibrant, and centered around strong values. Additionally, our Student Government Association is made up of dedicated student leaders collaborating to enhance the overall student experience. I also invite you to participate in on-campus activities, which are free and a lot of fun! Our award-winning Campus Activities Board has organized numerous exciting programs for you this academic year, ensuring there is always something happening at UAFS.
Don’t miss out on the high-quality cultural, musical, and theatrical performances we offer at UAFS. Our athletic programs are competitive and provide an enjoyable fan experience in the student section. Whether you’re a new Lion or a seasoned member of the Pride, I encourage you to commit yourself to academic excellence, campus involvement, and service to others. Remember, you have the power to shape your future. Make wise choices, stay open-minded, and enjoy everything UAFS has to offer!

Welcome to the pride of the River Valley-the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith!
My name is Emily May, and it’s my honor to serve as your Student Body President. Whether you’re coming from just down the road or across the globe, I want you to know you belong here. This campus will soon become a place of discovery, resilience, and growth. Not just in what you learn, but in who you become.
College is a whirlwind of emotions: excitement, nerves, curiosity, and maybe even a little homesickness. That’s okay. You’re not the only one feeling that way. We’ve all stood where you are, on the edge of something new, unsure of what’s ahead, but ready to begin. And let me tell you, what’s ahead is worth it.
At UAFS, we believe in building more than just strong resumes; we build strong communities. You’ll find professors who care deeply about your success, peers who will become lifelong friends, and opportunities to shine in classrooms, clubs, and causes that ignite your passion.
So, get ready to ask questions. To stumble and grow. To show up authentically, even when it’s hard. To build a stronger version of you. To push yourself, support others, and shape the kind of future you dream of.
As you step onto campus this fall, know that your voice matters. You are now part of a vibrant community that’s stronger because you’re here. I can’t wait to cheer you on.
Here’s to new beginnings, wild ambitions, and the unforgettable years ahead.
With Lion pride,
Emily May
President of the Student Government Association
