Social Work, BSW

The Social Work Program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). A program that has earned accreditation has demonstrated full compliance to the standards set by the Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards. Students earning a CSWE Accredited BSW degreeare eligible to apply to universities offering advanced standing graduate programs to earn a master of social work (MSW) degree in one year. Admission To The Bachelor Of Social Work

Admission to the bachelor of social work (BSW) is required prior to start of junior year. A student may declare a major of BSW at any time. However, to be officially admitted to the BSW program, the student must meet the following eligibility criteria for admission consideration:

Admission is selective. Students must be admitted to the socialwork program before taking advanced BSW courses.

Freshman Year Fall Semester - 16 Hours


Freshman Year Spring Semester - 16 Hours


Sophomore Year Fall Semester - 15 Hours


Sophomore Year Spring Semester - 15 Hours


Students must apply and be admitted to the BSW prior to start of junior year.

Junior Year Fall Semester - 15 Hours


Junior Year Spring Semester - 15 Hours


Senior Year Fall Semester - 15 Hours


Senior Year Spring Semester - 13 Hours


120 Total Hours


At least 40 hours must be upper-level

Notes

  1. General Education Core Requirements, see Graduation Requirements section of this catalog. Follow requirements with the following stipulations: lab science - BIOL 10043 /BIOL 10031  is required and select one additional lecture/lab.
  2. These courses are used to determine major GPA, see Graduation Requirements section of this catalog. Must earn a C or better in all SOWK courses applied toward the degree.
  3. Elective requirement, 17 hours. Consult with advisor.
  4. Statistics requirement. Select one course from MATH 21003  or PSYC 25133 .
  5. Required for admission to the BSW program. To be eligiblefor admission, student must have following:
    1. Completed a minimum of 35 general education hourstowards degree compliance.
    2. Completed SCWK 21063  and SCWK 30463 .
    3. Completed the English Composition requirement, SPCH 10003 , SOCI 10103 , and PSYC 11003  with a gradeof C or better.
    4. Minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA for all collegecourse work (including transfer work and excludingdevelopmental courses) used towards degree complianceand be in good academic standing
  6. Prior to graduation, students must demonstrate competencyin fi nancial literacy by satisfactory completion of FINN 15201 - Personal Finance Applications  (or an approved substitution)with a grade of C or better, or by a score of 70% or more on achallenge exam for FINN 15201 .
