EMT 1408 - Emergency Medical Technology-Basic Common Course Number: EMSC 14038 Credit Hours: 8 Contact Hours: 7.5 Lecture, 2.5 Lab Offered: Fall, Spring
An introductory study of emergency medical service systems and the basic principles of emergency care. Through didactic and clinical instruction, the EMT-Basic student will be prepared to take the National Registry EMT-Basic written and practical exams. Students must demonstrate proficiency in the practical skills used in dealing with medical and trauma-related emergencies, such as airway management, patient assessment, spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, defibrillation with the AED (automatic external defibrillator), and patient-assisted medication administration.
Prerequisite: American Heart Association CPR Certification CPR for Healthcare Providers or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
