Reviews key archaeological methods. Examines hidden social diversity in American History by comparing and cross-checking historical accounts with data retrieved via archaeological techniques. Complexity of power, immigration, gender, and race relationships revealed in the archaeology of early settlements, immigrant communities, of graves, of slave quarters, plantations, industry, and household items, rubbish pits, and privies.
Prerequisite: ANTH 2803 Cultural Anthropology and ENGL 1213 Composition II
