MAJOR CODE: 2543
The certificate of proficiency in TESL requires 15 hours of coursework. A minimum 2.00 grade point average is required for all courses used to meet the requirements of the certificate and no student will be allowed to receive the certificate with a grade of D in more than one course. At least 50% of the course requirements for the certificate must be completed in residency.
Program Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in English and an understanding of the linguistic challenges faced by second language learners.
- Design and implement effective lesson plans that address the listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural aspects of language learning.
- Assess language proficiency, provide constructive feedback, and adapt instructional strategies based on learning needs and progress.
