Teaching English as a Second Language, Certificate Of Proficiency

MAJOR CODE: 2543

The certificate of proficiency in TESL requires 15 hours of coursework. A minimum 2.00 grade point average is required for all courses used to meet the requirements of the certificate and no student will be allowed to receive the certificate with a grade of D in more than one course. At least 50% of the course requirements for the certificate must be completed in residency.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate advanced proficiency in English and an understanding of the linguistic challenges faced by second language learners. 
  2. Design and implement effective lesson plans that address the listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural aspects of language learning.
  3. Assess language proficiency, provide constructive feedback, and adapt instructional strategies based on learning needs and progress.
